I walked a once-familiar street
and saw the house where I was raised;
I understood access was mine
and so I went inside.
The rooms were there as I remembered;
I knew a childhood happiness again,
Glancing out, I saw the city as it was
a long half century ago.
But then I glimpsed an unexpected door
where I had not remembered one,
a small low door, in a room's corner.
I OPENED IT AND ENTERED ----
entered an alien room, huge and grey,
which led to other rooms and other worlds,
landscapes lost in time, strange dimensions
dark and undescribed ----
I fled the house,
fled down fluid streets,
through dim dissolving courts,
till panic fear
at last awoke me!
